PRACTICE GROUPS

The Lakes Mermaids offer both Non-Competitive and a Competitive Team in Artistic Swimming.

Our season has a practice commitment from September through the end of June. Optional clinics are offered in July in August.

Non-Competitive:

Recreational Lessons:

Non-competitive lessons as an introduction to Artistic Swimming. Any age. Must be able to swim 25 yards free style and backstroke.

Competitive Team:

We offer Novice level through Sr. Age Group through USA Artistic Swimming. All levels compete with the Ohio Association and our more advanced Age Groups also compete up through the National Level.

Beginner Levels:

Beginner levels introduce swimmers to competing with USA Artistic Swimming. Novice and Intermediate levels compete at about 4 meets with the Ohio Association, usually once a month spread between Jan-May. These meets may require travel in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

Novice 8 and Under Team: Beginner level, practices twice a week, ages 5 and up. Must be able to swim 25 yards free style and backstroke.

Intermediate Team: A competitive level up from Novice. Work towards passing Grade Level 1 and 2 in Artistic Swimming skills. We may have ages 10 and Under and 13-15 Intermediate groups.

Age Group Levels:

Age Group levels compete in local meets, and National qualifying meets, National meets and potentially International meets. Age Group level is a more advanced level that requires more training and larger travel to meets.

12U Age Group: The 1st level in Age Group Artistic Swimming. Ages 12 and under, (many 10-12 year old). Swimmers pass Grade Level 3 in Artistic Swimming. In addition to the Ohio Association meets, they travel out of state to Nationals and National Jr. Olympics, season ends at the end of June.

Youth Age Group: The next level up from 12 and Under Age Group. Ages 13 - 15. Swimmers pass Grade Level 4 in Artistic Swimming. In addition to the Ohio Association meets, they travel out of state to the North Zone Qualifier, Nationals, National Jr. Olympics, and potential for International meets.

Jr Age Group: The next level up from Youth Age Group. Ages 15 - 17. Swimmers pass Grade Level 5 in Artistic Swimming. In addition to the Ohio Association meets, they travel out of state to the North Zone Qualifier, Nationals, National Jr. Olympics, and potential for International meets.

Sr Age Group: The next level up from Jr. Under Age Group. Ages 18 and Up. Swimmers pass Grade Level 6 in Artistic Swimming. In addition to the Ohio Association meets, they travel out of state to the North Zone Qualifier, Nationals, National Jr. Olympics, and potential for International meets.
